Comprehensive Estate Planning For Every Situation

At the Law Offices of Stewart C. Loper, P.A., I offer estate planning solutions to fit every need. Whether your needs are basic or complex and whether your plan is for you as an individual or it is business-related, I can build an estate plan to protect your assets and future.

Estate Planning For Individuals And Families

For individuals and families in Minnesota, estate planning has a dual purpose. First, you need an estate plan that protects your own future, and, second, you need a plan that protects your assets and your family's future. I am a lawyer who can help you create an estate plan that does both.

First, I will help you create a plan that protects you should you become incapacitated. This plan might include a trust, but should, at minimum, include a health care directive and a durable power of attorney.

With these documents, you can specify the kinds of medical care and treatment that you will receive in case you cannot make or communicate decisions about your care and ensure a trusted individual handles your medical, legal and financial needs.

Second, I will help you create a plan using a last will and testament, a trust and/or other estate planning documents that protects your assets and provides that they are passed on to those you care about following your death.

Some clients will need to create more in-depth plans due other factors, such as family-owned businesses, minor children or multiple properties. In those cases, additional documents, such as family limited liability companies, life insurance trusts and/or buy-sell agreements, may become necessary to ensure the protection of your assets.

Estate Planning For Small Businesses

Clients who are also small business owners have additional estate planning needs. If you own a small business, you not only need personal protection should something unexpected happen, but also a succession plan for your business.

If you are in a partnership or a shareholder in a small business corporation, you may need to have a plan outlining who has the right to make business decisions and who will receive your share of the company upon your death.
